Nils Ellingson Eide and his American records

Birth 7 OCT 1890 • Hosanger, Norway

Death 17 MARCH 1966 • Hosanger, Norway

Nils Ellingson Eide first left Norway on 23 Feb 1906 and arrived in the United States in New York on 3 Mar 1906 (when he was 15 years old) to visit his brother, Olav Eide, and sister, Sevelina Eide, in Minnesota. In February 1907, they moved to North Dakota, where they each made homestead claims near Williston. On 6 Feb 1909, Nils filed a Declaration of Intention to become a U.S. citizen. On 2 Mar 1912, he filed a Petition for Naturalization. On 30 Oct 1913, his sister, Sevelina, passed away, and he returned to Norway with his brother, Olav, arriving in Bergen, 12 Dec 1913. In 1914 Nils left Bergen and sailed back to his homestead in Buford, North Dakota, near Williston, North Dakota. In 1915, Olav also returned to North Dakota, accompanied by his new wife, Kari, and his youngest brother, Lars. Sometime in the next few years (no records?), Nils returned to Norway, where he married Andrina Kvammen on 3 November 1917.

In 1924, after having four children, Nils returned to the U.S., arriving in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, on February 24, 1924. This was his last trip to America. By now, his brothers, Olav and Lars, both lived in Boise, Idaho, and Olav and Kari had 4 children. Nils stayed in the U.S. for several years, working and travelling around the country, and was included in a photo in Washington, D.C. Maybe he participated in some of the celebrations of 1925, celebrating 100 years of organised Norwegian immigration.  Eventually, he returned to Norway (the date and ship are unknown) and had three more children and seventeen grandchildren before passing away on 17 Mar 1966.
